With CDHS Student Council’s Dance Marathon fast approaching, donations are still needed to reach their goal of raising $5,000 for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The Central DeWitt Community School District is seeking a community partnership to provide wraparound childcare services at Ekstrand Elementary for students in preschool through grade 6. Our top priority is partnering with a provider to offer childcare for preschoolers outside of the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program (SWVPP) hours during the school day. Additionally, CDCSD seeks before- and after-school care, as well as summer care, for PK-6 grade students to expand access to reliable, high-quality childcare options for families. A big congratulations to our Special Olympics Unified Dance Teams! This past weekend at the State Games, our teams brought home BOTH a gold and a silver medal! 💛💜 We got a sneak peek of their awesome routines during Inclusion Week, and there was no doubt—they were ready to bring it to State! Their hard work and practice paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder! Way to go, Sabers! 🥇Our Saber Gold team received a gold medal. The team was coached by Unified partner Adriana Curtner. Team members included athletes Cole Michaelsen, Tatiana Raymond, Skyler Raymond, Adam Harney, Ayana Gooch-Sims, Amya Gooch-Sims, and Adrianna Flick. Unified partners included Nora Ubel, Adelynne Meyer, Lily Gruntorad, Brynn Schroeder and Finnley Smith. 🥈Our Saber Purple team received a silver medal. The team was coached by Unified partner Evalyn House. 🎉🏀 Congratulations to Central DeWitt alum Brig Tubbs on his induction into the IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame! A dominant all-state post, Tubbs averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds per game in 1987, earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors. He set Central DeWitt single-season records in points (631), rebounds (377), field goals (178), and rebounds in a game (22)—records that stood for more than 35 years! Tubbs continued his success at the University of Iowa, where he was a four-year letterwinner, earned his master’s in business, and was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. His leadership earned him the Nile Kinnick Memorial Scholarship, the team’s Coaches Award, and a position on the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Ekstrand Elementary first and third graders had an exciting opportunity to explore the stars last Friday, thanks to Clinton County Conservation and their StarLab! Students learned how to use the sky as a compass, identify constellations, and discover the legends behind them. This interactive experience helped deepen their understanding of astronomy.
