He trained under Grant Wood at the Stone City Art Colony, helping pioneer the Regionalism Art movement celebrating rural American life. There he met sculptor Isabel (Scherer) Bloom, and they were married for 63 years. He continued creating sketches, lithographs, and wood carvings throughout his life.
GEORGE DIXON: George Dixon and his wife Joane moved to our community in 1983 and quickly made a lasting impact. In 1991, George founded the Central DeWitt Chapter of the FCA, leading with prayer and song. What began with six students grew to 200 by 1999. His dedication to youth and the community earned him numerous honors, including the 1995 AAUW Spirit Award, Liberty Bell Award, Faith in Action Award, and a 1994 National Caring Award nomination.
COLLEEN DUNNEGAN: 1999 graduate Colleen Dunnegan has become a leading professional in her field. In high school, she excelled academically and was active in NHS, FCA, Chorus, Band, and the first Central Sensations Dance Team. 1986-1987-1988 STATE CHAMPION CO-ED GOLF TEAMS: In an unprecedented run, Heather (Deke) Kinney, Dave Rueter, and Mike Howes led Central DeWitt to three consecutive Co-Ed State Golf Championships from 1986–1988—the first and only program to achieve this feat in Iowa. Heather and Dave won in 1986 and 1987 after dramatic playoffs, and in 1988, Heather and Mike secured the 3-peat under the new alternate-shot format, cementing their place in Iowa high school golf history.

As we gear up for our first home football game of the season this Friday at Birney Field, we want to make sure the experience is safe, fun, and memorable for everyone. To help with that, here are a few important game-day expectations:
🏟 Family Areas: The grassy areas on the home side are perfect for families with young children. We encourage parents to keep their little ones close and enjoy the game together—cheering on our Sabers is more fun as a family!
📌 Designated Seating Areas: To ensure everyone has the best view and experience, we have designated seating for different groups. Intermediate School students will be in the bleachers on the north side, Middle School students will be near the scoreboard, and High School students in the main bleachers’ student section. Our amazing CDHS Marching Band will have their own section in the main bleachers, furthest to the north. Students are asked to stay in their assigned areas and soak in all the excitement of the game. Of course, students can also sit with an adult in other areas if they prefer.
👀 Supervision: All students in 6th grade and under must be accompanied by an adult. This ensures our younger students are safe and well-supervised, allowing everyone to focus on enjoying the game.
❌ No Extra Equipment: To keep the atmosphere focused on the game, please leave any equipment like footballs, scooters, skateboards, and backpacks at home.
🍿Food and Drink: No outside food or drinks are allowed. Support our Central Saber Athletic Boosters by purchasing snacks, drinks, and treats at the concession stand—every purchase helps our athletic programs!
Thank you for your incredible support of our students, staff, schools, and activities. Your enthusiasm and cooperation help make our Saber community truly special.
Go Sabers!
