🛡️🏰 Fourth grade students recently wrapped up an exciting exploration of the Middle Ages with a fun and interactive end-of-unit celebration day. As part of the unit, each student wrote a persuasive paragraph about which medieval role they would choose—knight, monk, nun, or craftsman—and shared their reasons with their peers. In addition to this, the students created detailed diagrams, ranging from knights and castles to monks and monasteries, showcasing their understanding of the era.

The celebration featured two guest speakers: Bryan Robinson shared the importance of archery during the Middle Ages and connected it to the archery club’s practices, while Keith Townsley demonstrated the history and mechanics of catapults used in medieval warfare.

It was a wonderful day of learning and fun! Both students and teachers enjoyed bringing history to life through such engaging, hands-on activities. For more pictures visit our Facebook page!

💀🌼 What an unforgettable week of learning and celebration! 🌼💀 CDHS Spanish students hosted their first-ever Día de los Muertos event—inviting students of all ages to explore the beauty and significance of this cultural celebration.

Through colorful altars (ofrendas), art, music, food, and interactive stations, our Spanish 1–4 students showed that Día de los Muertos is a joyful celebration of life, a special time to honor and remember loved ones together.

Students took the lead, showcasing initiative and communication skills as they taught their peers, applying critical thinking to explore the deeper meaning behind Día de los Muertos traditions through engaging, hands-on activities and growing in global awareness as they shared how this holiday is celebrated in Mexican culture around the world.

It was a vibrant reminder that learning a language means more than words—it means understanding and appreciating diverse cultures, stories, and the connections that unite us all.

A special highlight, as you can see in the pictures, was when 3rd-grade students visited, participating in activities that brought the holiday to life.

Muchas gracias to Sra. Schaller and Sra. Jory for providing this creative and fun learning opportunity for Sabers of all ages! 💜💛

Our students had a blast welcoming Coach Sloth to Ekstrand Elementary on Monday! He shared his journey to becoming an author, which included playing football at Iowa State and with the Iowa Barnstormers, coaching, and acting in movies such as We Are Marshall, Leatherheads, The Dark Knight Rises, and Amazing Spider-Man.

During the assembly, Coach Sloth gave students a behind-the-scenes look at his writing process and inspired them to dream big and create their own books. The fun continued with an interactive reading of his book, Hank the Bully, where students helped bring it to life. Through Hank’s story, students learned an important lesson: being a bully is NOT COOL!

A huge thank you to Coach Sloth for sparking creativity and encouraging our young writers to turn their own life experiences into stories. 💜✏️

Six Central DeWitt High School students recently participated in the Iowa Youth Symposium — part of the Model United Nations program.

Held each fall at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, the symposium helps prepare students for the spring Model UN Conference at UNI. During the event, students act as U.S. delegates, researching and writing position papers and formal resolutions on economic, social, political, technological, and scientific issues faced by the United Nations.

Representing Central DeWitt this year were:
Aliza Dimmick, Alythea Gunn, Ella Taylor, Eva Burke, Audrey Lewis, and Athena Sentore.

During the symposium, these students brought our Portrait of a Saber traits to life. They used critical thinking to analyze complex global issues and craft thoughtful, well-supported positions. Through communication, they shared their ideas clearly in discussions and worked collaboratively to draft formal resolutions. And with global awareness, they considered the broader impact of decisions, taking time to understand diverse perspectives on international challenges.

Way to go, Sabers! We're proud of you!💜💛

Are you interested in renting Central DeWitt facilities during December, January, or February? Our next round of rental reservations will open Monday, Nov. 3rd, and continue through Friday, Nov. 14th. ‼️ THIS IS THE ONLY TWO WEEKS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ENTER RENTALS FOR DECEMBER, JANUARY AND FEBRUARY.

Please keep these important details in mind:

* Renters are allowed 90 minutes per team per week.
* Time reserved = time billed: groups are billed for the time they reserved, not the time they actually use (unless the district cancels the reservation)
* The facilities will NOT be available on 12/24, 12/25, 12/31 or 1/1
* School-related activities have first priority. If a school event has to be rescheduled and we have to bump you out of your reservation, you will be allowed to look for an alternative day/time.
* If school is closed or dismissed early due to weather, all rentals for that day will be automatically cancelled and no charges will be assessed
* The District reserves the right to cancel weekend rentals if weather or building conditions are unsafe.
* Groups are permitted to use the specific area reserved in their rental agreement, if groups are found wandering or using unreserved areas, future rental privileges may be revoked
* Once reservations are approved, a contract will be sent and it must be "signed" and then payment must be made. The contract will contain additional information about the rental rules and regulations.
* Renters will have a key card they can use to access the facility for 15 minutes before and after their rental period. At no time should a door be propped open or should you ask a custodian to unlock a door for you during your rental period.
* Any rentals put in early (before November 3rd) or late (after November 14th) will automatically be denied.
* Any rentals put in for dates that are outside of December, January or February will automatically be denied.

➡️ For more details visit https://www.cd-csd.org/page/facilities If you have questions, please reach out to Sarah Johnston at sarah.johnston@cd-csd.org or (563) 659- 4704.
