Yesterday our freshman, juniors and seniors had the opportunity to learn about and network with over 50 area businesses and colleges during the Career Expo at the DeWitt Career Advancement Center. Students did a great job speaking with potential employers and asking a lot of questions!
To help students engage, Career and College Ready Counselor Holly Hansen gave them a bingo card that would be entered into a drawing for prizes if they found enough matching answers from speaking to the businesses. And, each business was given a few “Golden Tickets” to give to a student they felt went above and beyond to engage in conversation. These were entered into a special drawing where students could win things like a Fitbit, wireless speakers and more Thank you to all of the businesses who donated items for the door prizes! Also, a big thank you to the participants who took the time to show our students all of the opportunities our area has to offer!

After learning about chicken farms, Mrs. Sikkema’s 2nd grade class built their own chicken coops complete with “eggs” and “chicks.” The students used graham crackers and frosting to carefully construct them before enjoying their hard work as a delicious snack. Great job, Sabers!
This is lesson was part of Ag in the Classroom taught by consultant Jenna Stevens. Ag in the Classroom is program that helps K-12 students understand the role agriculture plays in their lives.
