Today, our district came together to celebrate Veterans Day and show appreciation for those who have served our country. At a special assembly hosted by CDHS Student Council, students, staff, community members and veterans joined in the Pledge of Allegiance and enjoyed patriotic performances from the 8th Grade and high school choirs, as well as the CDHS band.

We were honored to have veteran Michelle Willenborg share an inspiring message about service, sacrifice, and doing the next right thing — reminding students that every act of service, no matter how small, can make a difference.

This experience gave our students a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the courage and commitment of our nation’s veterans and the importance of gratitude and service in their own lives.

Thank you to our guest speaker, the members of the DeWitt American Legion and Auxiliary and all other veterans who joined us today.

🇺🇸This Veterans Day we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have served our country. Yesterday, our intermediate school students hosted an inspiring assembly to honor our veterans. They shared the history and meaning behind this important day through patriotic poems, songs, and heartfelt reflections — concluding with a spirited, star-spangled performance.

We were fortunate to have several local veterans join us for the event, making the celebration even more meaningful.

👑 It was a fairytale kind of day in first grade last Friday! Our young royals crafted beautiful crowns, listened to enchanting stories, colored magical scenes, and practiced their royal manners while they enjoyed delicious royal refreshments. The highlight of the day? Dancing their hearts out at the Royal Ball! What a magical day for our first graders!

🎵 Thank You, Saber Community! 🎵 Central DeWitt CDHS and CDMS Bands extend a huge thank you to our amazing community for helping raise over $15,000 in a single day during their recent mattress fundraiser! In total, 67 mattresses and numerous accessories were sold. 🙌

These funds will support the band’s trip to Florida in 2026, where they’ll proudly represent Central DeWitt and perform at the Pop-Tarts Bowl! 🏈🎺

Missed this year’s sale? No worries — the band plans to host another mattress fundraiser next October.

🍪🥐 Right now, the band is also running a Frozen Cookie Dough, Butter Braid, and Coffee Sale to help fund their upcoming journey. Orders are due November 17, so don’t wait to stock up your freezer before the holidays!

Here’s what that means:
👉 Sit-down breakfast is available in each cafeteria from 7:30–7:50 a.m.
🥯 Grab-and-Go Breakfast is available from 7:50–8:30 a.m., giving students an easy, healthy start to their day.

A variety of breakfast options are available daily for sit-down breakfast — including a main entrée, cereal, breakfast bars, fruit, juice, and milk. The grab-n-go option will include a grab-n–go main entree, a fruit or fruit juice and one protein or dairy option such as milk or cheese stick.

🛡️🏰 Fourth grade students recently wrapped up an exciting exploration of the Middle Ages with a fun and interactive end-of-unit celebration day. As part of the unit, each student wrote a persuasive paragraph about which medieval role they would choose—knight, monk, nun, or craftsman—and shared their reasons with their peers. In addition to this, the students created detailed diagrams, ranging from knights and castles to monks and monasteries, showcasing their understanding of the era.

The celebration featured two guest speakers: Bryan Robinson shared the importance of archery during the Middle Ages and connected it to the archery club’s practices, while Keith Townsley demonstrated the history and mechanics of catapults used in medieval warfare.

It was a wonderful day of learning and fun! Both students and teachers enjoyed bringing history to life through such engaging, hands-on activities. For more pictures visit our Facebook page!

💀🌼 What an unforgettable week of learning and celebration! 🌼💀 CDHS Spanish students hosted their first-ever Día de los Muertos event—inviting students of all ages to explore the beauty and significance of this cultural celebration.

Through colorful altars (ofrendas), art, music, food, and interactive stations, our Spanish 1–4 students showed that Día de los Muertos is a joyful celebration of life, a special time to honor and remember loved ones together.

Students took the lead, showcasing initiative and communication skills as they taught their peers, applying critical thinking to explore the deeper meaning behind Día de los Muertos traditions through engaging, hands-on activities and growing in global awareness as they shared how this holiday is celebrated in Mexican culture around the world.

It was a vibrant reminder that learning a language means more than words—it means understanding and appreciating diverse cultures, stories, and the connections that unite us all.

A special highlight, as you can see in the pictures, was when 3rd-grade students visited, participating in activities that brought the holiday to life.

Our students had a blast welcoming Coach Sloth to Ekstrand Elementary on Monday! He shared his journey to becoming an author, which included playing football at Iowa State and with the Iowa Barnstormers, coaching, and acting in movies such as We Are Marshall, Leatherheads, The Dark Knight Rises, and Amazing Spider-Man.

During the assembly, Coach Sloth gave students a behind-the-scenes look at his writing process and inspired them to dream big and create their own books. The fun continued with an interactive reading of his book, Hank the Bully, where students helped bring it to life. Through Hank’s story, students learned an important lesson: being a bully is NOT COOL!

A huge thank you to Coach Sloth for sparking creativity and encouraging our young writers to turn their own life experiences into stories. 💜✏️
