Activities and Guidance Secretary Becky Green, along with CDHS Secretaries Renee Meier and Rachel Grager, do far more than any job description could capture.

On any given day, they are problem-solvers, organizers, communicators, and the steady, calming presence that keeps everything moving forward. From managing schedules, attendance, and information systems to supporting students, staff, and visitors, their work touches nearly every aspect of the school day. Much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but without their dedication, attention to detail, and willingness to step in wherever needed, the school simply would not function as smoothly as it does. We are incredibly grateful for the countless ways they support our school community and are proud to recognize them as our January 2026 Employees of the Month.

Becky wears many hats, and she does so with quiet confidence and remarkable reliability. She is the go-to person for Infinite Campus questions, schedule support, and the many technical or logistical challenges that arise daily. Though her work often happens behind the scenes, Becky’s impact is felt everywhere—from helping students navigate their schedules to ensuring systems run seamlessly for staff. Her patience, care, and dependability make her an invaluable asset, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her in our district.

Together, Renee and Rachel keep the entire school organized, efficient, and moving forward. Often described as the ultimate duo (think Batman and Robin or peanut butter and jelly), they are the glue that holds everything together.

They are the first faces visitors see, the steady voices ensuring attendance is accurate, the ones making sure teachers know which substitutes are in the building, and the daily point of contact for countless students passing through the office. Their work is fast-paced, demanding, and too often under the radar—but their commitment never wavers. Without Renee and Rachel holding down the office each day, the school simply would not function the way it does.

The strength of our school is reflected in the people who keep it running every day, and Becky Green, Renee Meier, and Rachel Grager exemplify that strength. We are deeply thankful for their dedication and proud to recognize them as our Employees of the Month. 💜💛

Last month, 10 eighth-grade students were nominated and selected to participate in the Southeast Iowa Choral Director's Association Honor Choir, which took place at Assumption High School. Students rehearsed throughout the day, and performed a concert that evening for family and friends. We are very proud of how they represented Central DeWitt Middle School and their dedication and leadership in the fine arts!

Senior Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics students visited Argonne National Laboratory last week! They toured the Advanced Photon Source (APS), where scientists accelerate electrons to nearly the speed of light to produce some of the brightest x-rays on Earth. These powerful x-rays are used to study materials ranging from pharmaceuticals to cutting edge energy technology.

Students also participated in the "Extreme X-Rays" learning lab where they explored how the APS works. In this fun and competitive challenge, teams designed magnetic linear accelerators to see who could achieve the greatest acceleration of a steel ball!

What a great opportunity for our students!

🍫Last week, nine 6th graders participated in an engaging Chocolate Debate as an extension of the Amplify Chocolate Collection, giving students the opportunity to dive deeper into the topic through research, discussion, and critical thinking.

The selected students met to practice and prepare with Mrs. Hahn, while also completing much of the work independently. The debate topic was:
👉 “Should chocolate be included in school lunches?”

Students delivered impressive presentations, supporting their claims with strong reasoning and evidence. During the open discussion portion, they truly had to think on their feet—responding to opposing viewpoints and respectfully challenging the arguments of others.

Participants represented both Reedy’s and Thompson’s ELA classes, highlighting collaboration across classrooms and the power of student voice.

👏 Well done to Ellie Mishler, Lois Vincent, Domenica Cimino, Benjamin Claeys, Asher Claeys, Hudson Grell, Jack McGee, Kinnick Olson, and Eloise Ohnemus—you rose to the challenge and made us proud!

🎼 We invite families, friends, and community members to attend the Guy Blair All-Iowa Concert Band Festival, presented by Bob Rogers Travel—a free, public, and truly special musical experience showcasing the incredible talent of Iowa’s high school musicians.

This non-competitive festival is all about growth and learning. Student musicians perform for nationally recognized clinicians, receive expert feedback, and then immediately participate in a live clinic focused on improving their sound, technique, and musical expression. Just as importantly, students also attend performances by other bands—learning audience etiquette and developing their skills as thoughtful, engaged listeners.

This marks the 8th year of the Guy Blair Festival and the 7th year Central DeWitt has proudly served as a host site. Here’s the Tuesday, February 17 lineup at Central DeWitt:
