Central De Witt CSD has canceled school for January 21st with ongoing extreme temperatures projected through the noon hour.

Last Thursday, a group of our amazing 6th graders attended the Southeast Iowa Choral Directors Association (SE-ICDA) Honor Choir at Assumption High School! These dedicated students auditioned and earned the opportunity to participate. Over the past month and a half, they prepared four challenging songs outside of school hours. On January 16th, they joined about 150 other 5th and 6th graders from the area for a full day of rehearsals, culminating in a fantastic evening concert. We couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and incredible performance!

Join us tonight at 7 p.m. for the Crossroads (MAC) Music Festival concert featuring talented students from seven MAC Conference schools. The concert is at 7 p.m. in the CDPAC. Admission to the concert is $5 per person.
Today CDHS Instrumental Music Department is hosting the 2025 Crossroads (MAC Conference) Music Festival. Students selected for the festival are divided into two groups: the 9th/10th grade group will be guest-conducted by Dr. Rob Stull, Director of Bands from Clarke University in Dubuque and the 11th/12th grade group will be conducted by Dr. William Carson, Director of Bands from Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
This year, students from Bettendorf, Central DeWitt, Clinton, Davenport Assumption, Davenport West, North Scott, Pleasant Valley will be participating in the festival. While these schools are typically competing through athletics, this festival is a non-competitive, fun event to showcase these young musicians.

Last week, kindergartners walked the red carpet to attend a royal tea party. This special event, where students and teachers dressed in regal attire, served as a culminating celebration for the end of their royalty unit. During the unit, students explored how individuals become kings or queens, listened to fairy tales, and learned the importance of practicing royal manners.
At the tea party, the young kings and queens chose from a selection of treats served on elegant plates and enjoyed drinks in tea cups, all while demonstrating the manners they had practiced.
Following the tea party, the celebration continued with a royal ball filled with dancing. Students waltzed to Disney music, showcasing the dance skills they had learned during their studies. Adding to the excitement of the tea party was the presence of some very special guests—the Sabers girls basketball players! What a fun way to celebrate our kindergartners’ hard work!

With extreme cold temperatures in the forecast, we want to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff. As a result, school will operate on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Jan. 21st. Buses will run two hours later than usual, and classes will begin at 10 a.m.
Additionally, there will be no morning preschool, and all morning activities are canceled.
We understand the challenges these changes may bring and appreciate your flexibility and understanding. Please ensure your children are dressed warmly, and let us know if you have any concerns. Stay safe, and thank you for your support.

💜💛 Congratulations to our December 2024 District Student of the Month 3rd grader Derrick Hall! He is featured in today's edition of The Observer thanks to our friends at First Central State Bank.
Derrick Hall has been recognized as the District Student of the Month for his outstanding demonstration of SABER qualities. Derrick is new to Central DeWitt this year and from his first day, he has exemplified leadership, kindness, and a commitment to inclusivity that has made a lasting impression on his peers and teachers alike.
Derrick’s leadership extends beyond the classroom. At the beginning of the year, he made it a priority to walk his first-grade cousin home every day after school, ensuring he was always on time to pick her up. This level of responsibility and care is just one of the many ways Derrick demonstrates his dedication to others.
Ms. Herington, Derrick's third-grade teacher, spoke highly of his ability to connect with students of all abilities and backgrounds.
"Derrick greets me every morning with a ‘Good morning, Ms. Herington,’ and leaves every day with a ‘Bye, Ms. Herington.’ It always brings a smile to my face," she shared.
Derrick’s problem-solving skills and self-advocacy are equally noteworthy. When faced with challenges, he takes the initiative to resolve conflicts respectfully and thoughtfully. Mrs. Herington recalled being impressed by Derrick’s willingness to address issues independently before seeking her help, always with a focus on building friendships and understanding.
Academically, Derrick consistently participates in class, strives to do his best work, and seeks help when needed to ensure he continues to grow as a learner. His dedication to both his studies and his relationships with others has made him a valued member of the school community.
“Derrick has been a great addition to our district, and I am so thankful to have him in my class,” Mrs. Herington said.
Congratulations, Derrick, on being named District Student of the Month!
