🎓 Today is the day! 🎓 After years of memories, friendships, lessons, victories, challenges, and unforgettable moments, the Central DeWitt Class of 2026 will officially walk across the stage and turn their tassels this afternoon. 💜💛

On their last school day, seniors took part in the Farewell Tour — one final walk through the halls that helped shape their journey. From high fives to hugs, it was a heartfelt reminder of just how far this class has come and how many lives they’ve touched along the way.

🚲 Ekstrand second graders put their bike safety skills to the test during the annual Bike Rodeo on Wednesday afternoon.

Students practiced hand signals, safe stopping, maneuvering through obstacles, and other important biking skills — all while having lots of fun! The rodeo wrapped up with the “Circle of Chaos,” where riders experienced what it would be like if no one followed the rules of the road and why rules are important. Students also had the chance to wear the brand-new helmets they received thanks to the generosity of Crossroads Health Foundation and LincolnWay Community Foundation.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ What an unforgettable night for Saber Track & Field! Congratulations to all of our State Track qualifiers! We are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication, and determination these athletes have shown all season long.

It was also a special evening of unity and support. The Central DeWitt and Wahlert track and field teams came together at last night’s State Qualifying Meet for a meaningful show of support following the loss of our beloved middle school science teacher, Trisha Brookins. Both teams and many supporters wore shirts honoring Trisha while her son, Jayden, competed as a member of the Wahlert track and field team. The support shown by both school communities was truly moving and a reminder of the strength that comes from coming together during difficult times. 💜

🥶 Ekstrand Elementary students were challenged to raise $500 for Special Olympics to win the chance to dump a bucket of ice-cold water on their principal, Mr. Miller. Well…our students didn’t just meet the goal — they CRUSHED it by raising more than $1,000! 🎉👏

As the top fundraising classroom teachers, Ms. Wellman and Mrs. Keith earned the exciting honor of dumping the icy bucket of water on Mr. Miller! 🪣❄️

🫧 Second graders have been learning about corn and corn by-products with Ag in the Classroom Instructor Jenna Stevens! From food products to everyday items, students discovered just how many ways corn is used in our daily lives.

To put their learning into action, students got to experiment with a special bubble recipe using corn syrup — which helps make bubbles stronger and longer lasting!

Want to try it at home? Here’s the recipe:
🫧 2 cups dish soap
🌽 1 cup corn syrup
💧 6 cups water

Learning + bubbles = a pretty great day in 2nd grade! 💜💛

We are thrilled to recognize Stacy Hardison as our April 2026 Employee of the Month!

At Ekstrand Elementary, Kitchen Manager Stacy Hardison plays an important role in creating a positive and caring experience for students and staff each day. Her dedication, organization and kindness help keep the cafeteria running smoothly while ensuring students are well cared for.

Stacy works hard behind the scenes to make sure meals are prepared accurately and served efficiently. She pays close attention to students with food allergies and dietary needs, making sure every child receives the correct meal safely. Families and staff know they can trust Stacy because she genuinely cares about the health and well-being of every student who comes through the lunch line.

One of the things that makes Stacy so special is the way she knows and recognizes students and staff throughout the building. Whether she is greeting students by name, offering a smile during lunch or helping someone who may need extra assistance, she helps make the cafeteria a welcoming place for everyone.

Her care for students goes far beyond daily lunches. On field trip days, Stacy makes sure every student has a sack lunch if they need one, ensuring no child goes without a meal simply because they forgot to bring one from home. It is one more example of the thoughtful ways she quietly supports students each day.

Stacy also works diligently to ensure there is always enough food available for both students and staff, helping lunches run smoothly even during the busiest times. No matter how hectic the day may become, she remains patient, organized and polite to everyone she encounters.

The impact Stacy has at Ekstrand Elementary extends well beyond the cafeteria. Through her compassion, attention to detail and commitment to students, she helps create a caring school environment where students feel supported every day. Our district is grateful for all she does!
