🏹 Fourth graders recently wrapped up their study of the Middle Ages with an exciting, hands-on celebration filled with history, creativity and fun! Students watched an archery demonstration, built catapults, competed in a “Build a Knight” challenge and created dioramas to accompany their persuasive essay posters. They also sampled snacks inspired by the time period and made connections to the folktale Robin Hood.
A special thank-you to Bryan Robinson for sharing his knowledge of archery and Keith Townsley for helping students explore the history and mechanics of catapults. Their presentations added another dimension to the students’ learning and helped bring this historical era to life!

💜💛 Congratulations to our October 2026 District Student of the Month Paxtyn Hoepner! She is featured in today's edition of The Observer thanks to our friends at First Central State Bank.
Paxtyn is being recognized as Student of the Month for the kindness and positive attitude she brings to her classroom. She is an engaged student who gives her best effort and looks for ways to help others feel welcome. When a new student joined her class, Paxtyn made a point of helping her feel comfortable by explaining classroom routines and inviting her to sit with her at lunch.
Having transitioned this year from Ekstrand Elementary to fourth grade at Central DeWitt Intermediate School herself, Paxtyn understood what it could feel like to be the new student.
“We were all new students at the beginning of the year because we all came to this new school,” she explained. Knowing her classmate didn’t know anyone, Paxtyn wanted to show her respect and help her learn how things worked.
Her actions reflect what being a Saber means to her: “treating people how you want to be treated.” She also recognizes that kindness can bring people together, sharing, “When you help others, you make more friends.”
Her interest in helping others extends to her future goals, too. She hopes to become a doctor someday so she can continue to help people.
Outside the classroom, Paxtyn enjoys playing soccer and basketball. She likes the challenge soccer brings and loves playing basketball alongside her friends. She also enjoys spending time with her family playing games.
Paxtyn’s thoughtfulness toward others and the welcoming example she sets for her classmates make her a wonderful representative of Saber values. Congratulations, Paxtyn, on this well-deserved recognition!

On Wednesday, our Special Olympics athletes and buddies headed to Mairet Farms for a day full of fall fun! From a hayrack ride and corn maze to the jump pillow, giant slide, petting zoo and corn pit, there was no shortage of activities to enjoy and memories that were made. 🍂

Central DeWitt High School celebrated its newest National Honor Society inductees during a ceremony on Monday, recognizing students who exemplify the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Former Central DeWitt teacher Christine Gilroy joined the celebration as guest speaker, offering words of wisdom and encouraging members to carry these values into their daily lives, both in and beyond the classroom.
