The Central DeWitt Community School District Board of Education has approved a long-range Facilities Master Plan developed over several months by our Facilities Committee made up of staff, parents, community members, and board representatives.
"This plan is about more than buildings — it's a commitment to our community. A single campus creates connections, efficiencies, and greater opportunities and that's something worth investing in,” said Board President Dr. Jodi Prosise.
The plan centers on a single campus PK–12 model that brings all students together at the main campus, including new high school academic spaces and new PK–2 learning environments within the existing facility.
“I thought it was well thought out and a good process,” committee member Joel Dieckmann said. “Now we need to help the community see the benefits.”
Plan benefits:
Improved learning spaces for all PK–12 students
Cross-grade collaboration and mentorship opportunities
Greater flexibility to meet individual student needs
Strengthened sense of community across the district
The plan also reflects thoughtful financial planning, including ways to operate more efficiently, and it aligns with the district’s current debt structure.
Why now: Rising construction costs make delays increasingly expensive, and the district's current debt structure may allow it to move forward without raising the tax rate, pending legislative changes. Timely decisions are also needed regarding the future of the Ekstrand site.
The district’s next step is to continue community engagement and gather signatures to petition the Board of Education to place a bond measure on the November ballot.
“We are committed to keeping our community informed and involved throughout this process,” Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Mishler said. “This plan reflects our focus on providing excellence in academics, outstanding opportunities, and an exceptional experience for all.”
