Academics

The CDHS Course Guidebook lists the courses available to high school students. Each course has a course description, prerequisite course if needed, and the grade level the course is available. Before choosing a course, read the description and be sure this is the course you want. If you have questions about a course, please contact the high school.

In addition to the course descriptions, you will also find a list of the graduation requirements and the required courses students must pass in order to graduate from Central DeWitt High School. There are classes, such as Language Arts, that are taken at a particular grade level. These will be indicated on the registration form for each student.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the registration process, please call the high school at (563) 659-0715 and ask for the guidance office.

Testing Information

ACT Test
The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. The ACT test is multiple choice and covers four academic skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and scientific reasoning. It also offers an optional writing test. Most students take the ACT during their junior year. Students taking ACT could benefit from free test prep.

SAT Test
The SAT is offered nationally seven times each year, in March, May, June, August, October, November, and December, usually on a Saturday. See the current SAT test date schedule for the exact dates. Most students take the SAT for the first time in the spring of your junior year and again in the fall before college application deadlines. Most students who retake the SAT raise their score, and some students even take it more than twice.
