Welcome to Central DeWitt Middle School, home of the Sabers!

I am extremely excited to begin my second year as principal of the middle school as we begin the 2017-18 school year.  We had a great year and I found out firsthand what a great middle school staff and students that we have.  My first year as a 7-12 principal was a challenging yet very exciting year.  I am really excited about some of the new ideas that we will be implementing in the middle school this year.  We will be starting a new intervention/enrichment program and our teachers are very excited to get this started.  I look forward to continuing a great working relationship with the community, parents, and students of Central DeWitt Community School District.   It is exhilarating for our students and staff to work in this state-of-the-art facility.

I know first hand what an exceptional staff Central DeWitt Middle School has after working in the District for 20 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and currently as principal.  Throughout the past school year, I repeatedly experienced the dedication of our staff members.  I look forward to working with our faculty during this school year to help students reach their maximum potential.  Our teachers will continue to work diligently at building positive working relationships with our students.  We have a very dedicated middle school staff that works very hard with our students.   We are making a difference in the lives of our students.  I truly feel that I have the best job in America!

Last year our middle school’s Iowa Assessments improved in 5 out of 6 categories and have 90%+ in a few areas.  Once again, our students came through with better scores across the board!  This is an accomplishment we are very proud of.  Central DeWitt Middle School has an abundance of highly motivated students and we are very pleased with their success.

Our faculty continues to work very hard at improving teaching methods to meet the demands of the 21st Century Learner.  We have been really focused on Standard Based Grading as we continue to explore how to make this a reality.

Central DeWitt Middle School’s faculty will be participating in some fantastic professional development this fall.  Teachers will be grouped into PLC’s (Professional Learning Communities), for our second year.

Central DeWitt Middle School has been a 1 to 1 school for five years.  Both our teachers and students are very enthusiastic about the opportunity to get new laptops this year.  There are many exciting things happening at the middle school.  We have embraced change to make this a great place to learn and teach.   Since we are a two-grade (7th and 8th) building, students get the attention they need and relationships are a key to our success.

Remember that schools operate most efficiently when there is a cooperative effort of parents, students, faculty, and administration.  We are a team that functions best when we are all “pulling the rope in the same direction.”  Please consider logging on to Infinite Campus to keep informed on the grades of your child.  We have a goal of having 100% of our parents using this great tool to keep informed about their child’s grades and events at the middle school.  If you have lost your login information please call the middle school office at 659-0735.  Please let us know if you are having problems with this valuable tool.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via e-mail, george.pickup@cd-csd.org, or by phone, 659-0735.  Thanks for visiting our web site.

Have a great school year!
